Fans piled into McDonough Park this evening as Ontario County Judge candidate Kitty Karle and new Geneva Police Chief Michael Passalaqua were introduced, and threw out a pair of first pitches prior to the Wings 11-5 win over the Adirondack Trailblazers.
The Red Wings started out hot, scoring 2 runs in the first 2 innings; but their fire was quickly tamed by the Trailblazers who scored 1 run in the second inning, 2 runs in the fifth inning and 1 run in the sixth bringing the score to 4-2, with the trailblazers on top.
Geneva came blazing back in the seventh inning though, scoring a whopping 8 runs to take the lead and re-establish not just momentum, but confidence as well. The Red Wings scored one final run in the eighth inning. The Trailblazers also tacked on one final run in the eighth inning to round out the scoring.
Wings starting pitcher #19 Sean Lubreski (NJIT) went 6 full innings with 2 strikeouts and allowed 4 runs on 7 hits. Following Lubreski’s performance on the mound was winning pitcher #15 Steve Larson (Iowa Wesleyan), who went 2 innings with 3 strikeouts and allowed 1 run on 2 hits. Losing pitcher for the Trailblazers was #18 Mike Sansone (Fairfield) who went 7 and 2/3 innings, allowing 3 runs on 8 hits with 7 strikeouts.
Star players for the Red Wings were #31 Nick LaBrasca (Youngstown State) who had 2 hits, and 4 RBI’s including a 2-run triple and a home run, #13 Austin Jackson (Menodocino CC) who had 3 hits and 2 RBI’s, and #20 Jack Harris (San Francisco State) who had 2 hits and a home run.
Geneva plays home again Sunday, July 22nd against the Newark Pilots at 4:05pm.
