Geneva, N.Y. — The Geneva Red Wings made history Wednesday night with a brotherly battery behind the plate and on the mound, but a late surge wasn’t enough to overcome an early deficit in a 13–7 loss to the first place Batavia Muckdogs.
Cole Litman got the start and his brother Trent was behind the dish. This is a rare sight at any level of competition and was a great storyline coming into the contest, but the Muckdogs wasted no time jumping ahead, plating eight runs through the first four innings. Cole recorded 9 outs before his evening ended.
Litman's final line: 3.0IP, 4H, 5BB, 5ER, 3K.
Despite being held scoreless through the first four innings, they chipped away at the 8-0 deficit in the bottom of the fifth after Dylan Briggs singled and came around to score on a Jaden Madrid groundout. Matt Sardou roped an RBI double into the right-center field gap making it 8–2, giving Geneva its first push of the night.
The Red Wings rattled off a flurry of hits, all part of a five-run, two-out rally in the bottom of the seventh that brought them within a run. Jaden Madrid sparked the surge with a single to center, and Michael Sardou was hit by a pitch to keep the inning alive. Jack Turner and Zane Barron followed with RBI singles, Christian Bermudez blooped a two-run knock into center, and Zach Banks capped the rally with an RBI base hit to make it 8–7.
However, the momentum was short-lived. The Muckdogs answered with a four-run eighth inning—highlighted by a double from Cooper Romick and an RBI single from Sean Mindas—before tacking on one more in the ninth to put the game out of reach and secure a 13–7 win.
The Red Wings fall to 7-21-1 on the season and will look to bounce back Friday at home against the Niagara Falls Americans. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30PM.
