The Geneva Red Wings took down the Elmira Pioneers 11-4 on Saturday with lots of runs leading the way
It started in the 1st when Kross Grundy hit an RBI single to score Noah Fisher, making it 1-0 Red Wings.
In the 5th Trevor Rogers hit a two-RBI double. Grundy then picked up his second RBI of the game with another single, expanding the lead to 4-0.
Geneva’s starting pitcher Kobie Punchard had a no-hitter through five innings but it was broken up in the 6th when Elmira’s offense came to life.
Jeff Mejia hit an RBI to bring home Andrew Sexton. A few batters later, Garrett Schultz hit into a double play but was still able to drive home another run. During the next at-bat, Punchard threw a wild pitch that scored Preston Moore from third, making it a 4-3 game.
Geneva got a run back in the bottom half of the 6th, as Noah Fisher grounded into a fielder’s choice that scored Harrison Treble, making it 5-3 Geneva.
In the 7th Mejia came through again for Elmira, as his RBI double made it a one-run game again.
In the bottom half of the inning, Treble’s two-RBI double gave Geneva a 7-4 lead.
The Wings would secure the win in the 8th with a big four-run inning. It started with an RBI double by Brock Kauffman. Trevor Rogers immediately followed that up with a two-RBI double of his own. Leo Wells then hit a sacrifice fly to make 11-4 Geneva.
Geneva’s next game is at home on Monday as they take on the Watertown Rapids.
