The Geneva Red Wings used a pair of home runs along with a solid start from pitcher Steve Branche (RIT) to take game #2 of this best of three series 4-2. The Wings were led by Left Fielder Langston Livingston (St. Joseph’s (Pa.) who had two hits, including a home run, and two RBI’s.
Geneva would continue their hot hitting streak in the bottom of the first inning when third baseman Justin Barr (Central Alabama C.C.) hit a solo homerun over the left field fence giving the Wings a 1-0 lead.
The Jammers would score two runs to take the lead in the top of the fourth inning on a two out, bases loaded single by right fielder Dailin Lee. Shortstop Alex O’Donnell and first baseman Brandon Nania would score on the play before catcher Ben Livorsi was tagged out at third base to end the inning.
The Wings would take the lead back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth inning. Left fielder Langston Livingston hit a two run shot over the right field fence to give Geneva back the lead at 3-2.
Jamestown starting pitcher Christian Young went six innings, giving up three runs on 5 hits, 8 total strikeouts, and a 3-2 deficit for the Jammers.
Geneva pushed their lead to 4-2 in the top of the seventh inning when second baseman Jesse Hall (LB Wallace College) scored on an error by the center fielder.
Red Wing’s starting pitcher Steve Branche would exit the game in the eighth inning, allowing just two runs on 1 hit and 10 total strikeouts. Right-handed closer Joey Haas (U of Delaware ) entered the game in the top of the eighth inning.
Haas would go on to pitch two scoreless innings on the way to his fifth save of the season, forcing a game three winner take all game that will take place Saturday August 4th. This game will be held at Colburn Park in Newark, as Jamestown’s field is busy at this time. First pitch is 7:05.
