The fireworks from the 4th of July carried over to McDonough Park on Wednesday night, as the Geneva Red Wings (18-10) defeated the Newark Pilots (7-23) in a way that was really only appropriate for the nature of the 10 inning ballgame.
In a contest that featured three lead changes, 19 combined runs and 30 combined hits, the stats column was saturated with leaders. The top performances from Wednesday night:
Newark
Graham Hackbarth (Pearl River CC): 5-6, 4 R
Hunter Wells (Tyler JC): 3-4, 2 RBI, R
Will Allocca (Virginia): 2-5, 2 RBI, R
Colton Carney (Seton Hill): 1-4, 3 RBI, R
Zach Mann (Saginaw Valley State): 5.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 7 K
Geneva
William Simoneit (Cornell): 3-5, 2 RBI, R
Langston Livingston (St. Joseph’s): 3-5, RBI, 2 R
Garrett Uhl (UT Dallas): W, 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 K
Both teams finished with 15 hits, and the only thing that separated them at the end of 10 innings was a wild pitch that brought Dominic Toso (Bucknell) home from third with two outs. The cross town rivalry has only gotten better as the season has gone on, and these two teams will meet each other again on Monday night at McDonough Park.
Geneva returns to action on Thursday night at home against the West leading Jamestown Jammers (23-5).
