Geneva Red Wings open 2021 season with 8-5 win over Niagara


GENEVA, N.Y. – The Geneva Red Wings opened the 2021 season with an 8-5 win over the Niagara Power Friday night at McDonough Park.

The Wings fell behind 3-0 after 3 1/2 innings, but then scored four in the bottom half of the fourth to take a 4-3 lead.

Niagara tied the game at four in the fifth.

Each team added a run in the sixth to make it 5-5.

Geneva scored three in the eighth to take an 8-5 lead and never looked back.

Mike Borrelli and Dylan Mackenzie each drove in a pair of runs. Dalton Cody and Korson Hastings each had a RBI as well.

Geneva’s starter A.J. Gartland allowed four runs over four innings. The bullpen combined to allow just one run.

The Wings hit the road Saturday as they take on the Auburn Doubledays at Falcon Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
