The Newark Pilots ended a six game losing streak on Thursday night with a win over the Geneva Red Wings. Newark tallied seven runs off eight hits and received a solid pitching performance out of starter Quinton Logan (Hinds CC) who picked up the win.
Although the Pilots were out hit by the Red Wings who roped ten hits themselves, great defensive play turned out to be the deciding factor for Newark. While Geneva ended the night with four errors to their credit, Newark played fundamentally sound defense throughout the night which in turn lead to timely hitting at the plate.
While only one Pilot hitter had more than one hit on the inning, Chase Cockrell (Ole Miss) and Sam Fragale (Virginia Tech) both delivered at the plate for the Pilots by racking up two RBI’s a piece. With the middle of the lineup delivering for the Pilots, cruise control set in as they picked up a 7-4 victory inside McDonough Park.
Both Newark and Geneva hit the road on Saturday, where the Pilots will take on Victor while Geneva will head to Jamestown.
