McDonough Park played host to another one run decision between the top two teams in the Western Division of the PGCBL on Saturday Night. The hosting Red Wings (22-15) beat the visiting Jammers (27-10) by a final tally of 5-4.
Jamestown jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after the fourth inning. Christ Conley (Canisius) finished with a pair of home runs on the night, driving in three RBI and scoring once. He was responsible for all four Jammers runs.
The Wings responded with a solo run in the fifth, a product of a wild pitch to score Matt Smith (UC Davis). The following inning, Geneva plated four runs to take a 5-3 lead. TJ Byrd (Rend Lake) started the inning with a double, and scored on a passed ball. The Red Wings loaded the bases after that, and Jake Evans (Alabama Southern CC) delivered with a two out, two RBI single. Jake Lyle (Volunteer State CC) followed immediately with an RBI single of his own to conclude Geneva’s scoring for the evening.
Jamestown added a single run in the top of the seventh on Christ Conley’s second home run of the game. Following that, there were runners on the corners with only one out, but a line drive double play on a hit and run got reliever Brent Holcombe (Bossier Parish CC) and the Wings out of the inning with the lead.
Reliever Colby Mullins (Andrew College) earned a six out save, pitching scoreless eighth and ninth innings. There were runners on first and second with one out in the top of the ninth, but a flyout and strikeout ended the game. It was Mullins’ sixth save of the season.
Geneva returns to action on Sunday when they host the Flames. It will be their last game before the All Star Break.
