The Geneva Red Wings at one point trailed 7-0 in Thursday night’s independence day game against the Newark Pilots. Geneva was able to rally back for an exciting win at McDonough Park.

Newark’s scoring started with a sacrifice fly from Parker Denny in the 1st.

The Pilots had a big 3rd inning, putting up six runs. Over Torres hit a two-RBI single to make it a 3-0 game. A few batters later, David Bermudez knocked in two more with a double. Jordan Fiedor then hit a two-RBI single to give the Pilots a 7-0 lead.

Geneva would get on the board in the 4th, as Trevor Rogers hit his 5th home run of the year, a two-run shot, to cut the deficit to five.

In the 6th, the Wings would battle back. Kross Grundy grounded into a fielder’s choice that would score a run.  Brock Kauffman then stepped up and blasted a three-run home run to make it a 7-6 game.

A two-RBI double by Thursal White gave Geneva the lead, but they wouldn’t stop there. Brandon Cooper hit a double to score White as Geneva went up 9-7.

The Wing’s bullpen had a great outing as they held the Pilots scoreless for the last six innings of the game.
