Strong Pitching and Offense Leads Red Wings to Win Over Blue Sox

The Geneva Red Wings won 7-2 over the Utica Blue Sox on Tuesday night, showing strong performances both on the mound and at the plate.

Alexander Gow (Kenton) started for Geneva and gave up just four hits and one earned run while striking out five.

Gow was able to get early support from his offense as in the 2nd inning Daniel Sperling (McHenry County Col) singled to bring home Harrison Treble (Pace Univ).

The Wings opened it up more in the 4th as they put up three runs, starting with Kross Grundy (Georgia Southern) scoring on a passed ball. A few batters later, Sperling would come through again as the third basemen hit a two-RBI double, making it 4-0 Geneva.

The Blue Sox would answer back next inning, as Malik Spratling hit a solo shot to deep center field. Aaron Previsky would then reach first base on an error that would score Ben Montenegro.

The Wings would add some insurance runs in the 6th as Brock Kauffman (East Stroudsburg) knocked in two more with a single. Trevor Rogers (San Francisco St) then hit an RBI double, making it 7-2.

From there Geneva’s relief pitchers Tim Geissel (SJFC) and Jacob Land (Adrian College) would hold Utica scoreless.

The Red Wings next game is Thursday, as they travel to Elmira to take on the Pioneers.
