Introducing: Luke Picchiotti
Some many years ago, today’s Geneva RedWings were formally known as the Geneva Cubs, and thus were a minor league club for MLB’s Chicago Cubs. It appears only fitting that one of Geneva’s newest outfielders is an Illinois native and a Cubs fan.
Luke Picchiotti hails from the town of Arlington Heights, Illinois, a good 25 miles from the downtown area. Arlington Heights holds the distinction of being the most populous community in the US that is called a village.
Luke attended Arlington Heights, John Hershey High School. While playing on the baseball team there, he led his team to the playoffs 3 times and led them in RBIs (Runs Batted In). While he evidently chose baseball as the sport he’s most passionate about, Luke also played basketball and lettered as a running back on the football team. His passion for baseball came to him long before high school, though, as he remembers learning and falling in love with the game in the 6th grade. His family may have also played a part in that decision as Luke’s grandfather was a minor league player for the Cubs. Some of Luke’s best memories come from going to Cubs games at Wrigley Field, a tradition he continues to this day.
That does it for this edition of Charlie’s Corner. Stay tuned for next week!
