Charlie’s Corner: Meet the RedWings

Updated: Mar 18, 2022

Introducing: Wyatt Patchett – No. 14

A new season brings an exciting new edition of Charlie’s Corner – Meet The RedWings!

Ladies and Gentlemen, it will soon be another great PGCBL season with your Geneva RedWings. With a new season, new editions of “Charlie’s Corner” will be hot off the press. The Red Wings are welcoming a fresh crop of new talent from across the country and soon you will see balls flying up in the air to left, right, and centerfield with some hopefully exiting the park.

One of those new faces you will see is Wyatt Patchett. If that name sounds familiar it is because Wyatt is a local boy having just graduated from Geneva High School. Wyatt is now a freshman at Le Moyne College where he is a catcher and will play catcher for the Wings. He dabbled in a few other sports as a high school student but soon found that baseball was what best suited him.

Wyatt had athletic competition growing up in the form of two brothers who also enjoyed some success. His brother Reid played lacrosse and basketball in high school and currently plays basketball at ESF (SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry). Benton was a soccer player and shared an interest in baseball with Wyatt. Wyatt credits his success to his parents, always telling Wyatt to do a job and take to athletic competition wholeheartedly. Wyatt takes this to heart as when he’s not at practice, you can find him lifting in the weight room.

Some athletes are all about individual achievement, but not Wyatt. The humble freshman does admit that he’s not the fastest guy on the field so perhaps you won’t see him steal many bases. What he lacks in speed he makes up for with a strong arm and he believes he can provide the team with power at-bat.

He looks up to journeyman baseball player Yadier Molina. Molina was never the biggest man on the field nor was he the most athletically gifted. Wyatt finds admiration for Molina for his ability to play the game for so many years, and he hopes to be able to do the same.

When he’s off the field or not in the weight room, which is not often, Wyatt enjoys comedy movies especially those of Will Ferrell.

Come out to McDonough Park in June to see Wyatt and many other new players as they tackle a new season.

I hope you have enjoyed the opportunity to get to know one of your newest RedWings and thank you for joining me on this edition of Charlie’s Corner. There are many more to come very soon!
