RED WINGS SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER IN CANADA

ST. CATHARINES, ON- The Red Wings packed their bags and headed for St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada, for a special Father’s Day doubleheader against the newest members of the PGCBL in the Niagara Ironbacks.

Catcher Tyler Skaggs highlighted the Red Wings' game one win with 2 hits, 2 RBIs, and a run scored.

The Red Wings came out swinging early in the 1st inning of game one. Zach Banks and Chase Fogg fooled the pitcher on a double steal, which saw Fogg sacrifice himself to help Banks reach home safely. Singles from both Aiken Santana and Jordan Perry would follow, allowing a big swing from catcher Tyler Skaggs to score both runners and place him promptly on 2nd base.

The Red Wings would fall behind in the 2nd inning, but the young starting pitcher Elijiah Benton would hold his ground and limit any serious damage. The offense would have to step up in the following innings. In the 4th inning, the Red Wings responded, scoring three runs thanks to a Christian Bermudez grounder, a Dylan Wolfson single, and a Zach Banks triple. Jaden Madrid would bring home Jordan Perry to score the 7th and final run of the first game for the Red Wings on a SAC fly to 3rd base in the following inning.

Catcher Tyler Skaggs would be one of the many highlights of game one, going 2-3 with a run scored and 2 RBIs. Zach Banks and Aiken Santana would also add 2 hits apiece in game one.

Game two saw an almost entirely new lineup for the Red Wings. After finding themselves in trouble early, the Red Wings would have to rely on relievers Preston Leech and Jack Turner to limit any further scoring from the Ironbacks. Leech and Turner combined for 7 strikeouts and only gave up 1 earned run.

The Red Wings' game two offense was commanded by a pair of high school teammates in catcher Zane Barron and Zach Banks. Each of them added 2 hits apiece. Banks drove in one run for the Red Wings, and Barron scored 2.

Geneva, however, would run out of innings in game two, falling short in their comeback efforts. The Red Wings are back in action on Tuesday against the Elmira Pioneers. The team will wrap up the suspended game from June 8th, before starting the regularly scheduled 6:30 pm game.

These kinds of matchups always bring intensity, and it's clear both teams left it all on the field. As a fan, I’m proud of the effort and resilience shown looking forward to seeing how the team builds on this momentum in the next series.
